Ugly talent? 04/21/2009

Everytime I watch the clip of Susan Boyle singing, I get goose bumps. Its un-be-liev-able.She is now a bonafide superstar! In several interviews, she has been asked if she will  do a make over. The 47yr old responds saying "I'm happy the way I am: short and plump," and that while she might consider a "makeover later on," "I would not go in for Botox or anything like that."

Why is her voice not enough? It's not like she needs to make music videos....plus making her a pretty face does not enhance her singing ability. She represents a large segment of our population that is grossly under represented in pop culture.Maybe human beings are just extremely shallow........

I am not sure how I feel about this ad.I know the ladies in the video were covered, but why would BK air an ad targeted at kids that would place focus on a woman's butt? This is a nation where 40% of kids are born to unwed mothers, many of whom are teens(66% for Blacks).

Maybe I am reading too much into this....

President Obama has been invited to  speak at graduation ceremony at Arizona State University next month.Typically, invited speakers have been public figures and are usually bestowed an honorary degree as a sign of gratitude. This time, the university, has refused to give an award to Obama stating "his body of work is yet to come."

Aside from his extensive education and legal experience, he is the nation's first black president!

Are they waiting for the results of the stimulus package? After, much deliberation, they decided to name a scholarship after the president.I think its too little, too late.

Rumour has it that Rihanna will be launching a new fragrance sometime soon.Should she be getting new endorsements when Chris Brown is losing his?Who will be buying anything she has to sell when she hasnt even made a public statement all this while?

Even though, the US is experiencing almost 9% unemployment rate, its so easy to focus on that number and forget that a whopping 91% of the country's working population is still gainfully employed.

I read in a recent article that many people find it diffcult to talk about their work day, especially to people who have lost their jobs. Not that I expect people to rub in the fact that they are working, but sometimes its  good to vent.Even those of us that are blessed to be working know that the work environment has changed dramatically. We all have to work more with fewer resources.

Can a working woman no longer discuss her day with her unemployed husband? Can friends no longer frankly talk about what is going on at their workplace?
